Maryland State Department of Education - Project Great Expectations

SPG boasts a growing practice in the area of program and performance evaluation. This includes work on behalf of numerous local school systems and the Maryland State Department of Education. One of SPG’s most rewarding assignments has been its evaluation of Project Great Expectations, which seeks to help students from low-income settings to

participate in advanced placement courses and test taking.

To quantify the impact of this initiative, SPG generated project-specific surveys to determine which of the ten participating jurisdictions were best able to engage students, staff and parents in the advanced placement effort. The project is an example of SPG’s commitment to generating data for decision-making and accountability.
