BRAC Readiness

Maryland stands to gain a considerable amount of jobs, investment, human capital and prestige from recommendations rendered during the latest BRAC round. After the initial recommendations were made public, states such as New Jersey lobbied to undo them, often by suggesting that Maryland simply could not handle the growth associated with the implementation of recommendations. These arguments enjoyed at least some credibility given

recent estimates that BRAC could bring as many as 60,000 jobs to Maryland over the next few years.

On behalf of the Army Alliance, SPG authored a report to be delivered to the BRAC Commission that focused on the absorptive capacity of Maryland’s economy. Specifically, SPG collected and analyze data regarding Maryland’s transportation infrastructure, labor force, schools and housing stock. The recommendations were not undone.
